It's been almost a decade now since this social networking giant took birth and has been one of the most talked about social media tool ever since. Mark Zuckerburg's brainchild has grown exponentially since its birth and has crossed the one billion user mark in less than a decade. Facebook went viral overnight, and has already seen its peak. It completely swept away the pioneer 'orkut' which saw a mass exodus between the year 2009 -2011.

From bizzare status messages to the ever growing photo albums- Facebook witnessed it all. And then came the "tweets"!!Twitter, however, did not along well with the housewives and teens. It seems to be more of a favourite in the professional world.

The fate of Facebook, however, is in for a change. A recent study by a group of researchers suggests that by the year 2017, eighty percent of Facebook users would have abandoned Facebook. Really?? Well, yes, quite predictable . Most of us who joined Facebook in its early years of infancy feel the fatigue setting in. It's been more than a year for Facebook to become a public company in May-12. With the advent of its electronic successors like Twitter and whatsapp hastily nibbling aware its market share, its investors are likely to feel the pinch too soon.

The downfall is imminent, as was with its predecessors like orkut which vanished overnight, but not too soon. Ask yourself, for instance, do you visit Facebook as often as you did in the yesteryears? For me, personally, it's gone down to nearly half as much. I visit Facebook less often, post fewer pictures, like and comment on fewer, and of course, never did I do much of meaningless status updates like "at the airport", "at the cinemas", or " at a restaurant with a friend" or did I even happen to read "in the toilet" and " taking a bath"?!!

According to a group of Princeton researchers, a decline in Facebook users is likely. They have compared the networking giant to an infectious disease. Facebook is analogous to an infectious disease which has seen its peak already and is in a state being cured completely.

Quoting Robert South " Novelty is the great parent of pleasure", Zuckerburg promises the decade to come is bound to be more exciting for its users. We definitely look forward to some novelty here
